It's actually easy being green. It just takes a commitment throughout the company.

Inside Aecon's offices we recycle all paper, bottles, cans, plastic, small batteries and toner cartridges. Why? To foster an understanding among our employees that even the smallest gesture is a significant contribution.

Consequently, it becomes second nature on the job site for Aecon people to pay close attention to how we affect wetlands and wildlife habitat. We use building materials and practices that result in structures that can last longer, cost less to maintain and create a smaller carbon footprint.

During construction, Aecon makes sure wood, plastic and metal scraps are recycled, and drywall, concrete and asphalt rubble is repurposed. We recycle paint whenever possible, and dispose of it properly when recycling isn't feasible.

Development at all costs is a mantra we cannot and will not accept. All development has an impact on its community. It is our duty to make the environmental impact of development a positive, beneficial one.

With that in mind, we strive to create projects that qualify for the U.S. Green Building Council's certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system. And to ensure that we continue to understand and employ the best green building practices available, several members of the Aecon team have completed the LEED Professional Credentialing Program.
